Radio Free Burrito Episode 4

Greenslime_1 Yes, it is true! At long last, the long-overdue Episode Four is here. According to certain other episode-numbered series, this should be the episode that grabs everyone's attention and establishes me as a Force to be reckoned with . . . but it will be the next episode that proves to be my best ever, one which I'll never be able to top.

I guess I should figure out a way to get a hold of Lawrence Kasdan, huh?

This episode is another audio diary one, this time centered around an audition I had this morning for a new Nickelodeon animated series. It was an awesome audition, thanks entirely to the totally cool people who I read for, who made me feel welcome, and enthusiastically worked with me to bring my version of this character to life. (I know some of you read my blog, so thank you for doing that. I had an awesome time today. You guys rock.)

The audio diary is 33 minutes long, so I didn't do Q&A in this show, but it will be back in the next show. In fact, I'll devote most of the next show to Q&A, since many of you have written in that you like that, and it's pretty damn easy for me to answer questions about myself.

Show Notes:

  • The intro music is "Gone for Good" by The Shins, from their album Chutes Too Narrow. In Garden State, Natalie Portman says that The Shins will change your life, and plays New Slang to back up this bold statement. I think New Slang is a great song, but it doesn't have the emotional resonance for me that Gone for Good does. Why? Listen to the podcast to find out. For those of you scoring at home, the updated board should read Garden State: 0 Wil: 1
  • The link to save Teen Titans is: http://www.titanstower.com/source/animated/saveseason6.html
  • The song you heard from Nada Surf is Neither Heaven Nor Space, and it's off their nearly-perfect album Let Go.
  • There's a picture from inside Nickelodeon, which I snapped with my super-stealth cameraphone, in my Buzznet blog. I meant to mention this months ago, but Buzznet has this thing where you can make posters, calendars, books, or postcards from your Buzznet images. I have a book filled with images taken up until last summer, and it's really cool.

Hey Wil - great podcast!! So funny. I loved your reaction when you thought you had lost the recording. Thanks for the mention - the whole office cheered. Everyone in the Foundation gathered around my desk to listen to the entire show and it didn't seem like 47 minutes - it flew by. I have tried to email you but alas, my nerdness is extremely limited because... well, because I'm old. But I will continue to try to get through to you. Keep the podcasts coming.... they are so cool!!!

alice

wil - the podcast was AWESOME! the parts where you yelled out of the window of your car were hilarious and your excitement after your audition was delightful and infectious and...it rocked. i was sad when it was over, in fact.

Wil, you are all over the place... I think it's called ADD. You'll be in mid-thought, and stop to mention some random OTHER thought. LOL I LOVE IT!

Loved the podcast...

Wil, I Agree. One of my best friends Ricky Ullman from Disney bought me the cd Chutes Too Narrow and I went on to ITunes and got all of there other songs and Gone for Good is the one I find myself listening to the most.

Wil, I really enjoy your podcast. Those gigantic wings were probably wind turbine blades for wind power generation. I see them coming through Fort Worth all the time.

I'd like to thank you for this week's episode, if, for no other reason, the looks I got on the Boston transit system as I was commuting to work and laughing out loud. =)

Actually, I have to say "Garden State: 1, Wil Wheaton: 1" because I think that any song by The Shins has the potential to change everyone's life.

Hi Wil,

I returned from a trip to Vegas last weekend, during which time I visited the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton. My friends had read my review of "Dancing Barefoot" and your subsequent mention of my review, so for the weekend, I was "Wesley Crusher's girlfriend." Ah. Nerds.

I should also mention that I was at my luckiest that weekend at the Hilton; after emerging from Quark's Bar, I put 1 quarter in a slot, and won $20. I'm working my way up to poker.

Can't wait to listen to the download.

Hope that you rocked the audition! Because no matter how many times you go through the whole damn routine, it still sucks. *is still bitchy about current auditioning slump*

Nice podcast!

Wow, this is awesome! I always loved listening to your recorded bits and a podcast is a great idea. You can express your writing as well as post it for us fans. :)

Plus, you have a very good radio voice! I'm very excited about this podcast! (Its gotten me involved in podcasts, too).

Hey Wil,

Great podcast! But a little technical note... you gotta turn up those promo/ID's! :-)

That was my buddy Paul Darcy from the Great White North at the six minute mark:

Tickled pink to be on your podcast, I'm thinkin'...

Okay well maybe not "pink"

Thanks dude, good stuff. I will say that your commentary on how often you say "interesting" is _way_ more noticeable and distracting to your flow than just saying it. Many people have verbal tics, or patterns (heck, sportscasters add them on purpose, to distinguish their style), but if it keeps you speaking fluidly, then I for one can live with it. Thanks for the entertainment on my way home. Podcast-on.

this is the best one yet!...your manic performance in the car had me laughing out loud.

as for next year's christmas show...do like the BIG ICONS OF CHRISTMAS (Bing Crosby, Perry Como, etc) did...record your special in july when it's hotter than hell...and pretend it's colder than hell and you're buried in mountains of fake snow.

btw...every time you said "without further talking"...i felt like you were choking back the words..."without further adieu"...could i be right?

Wil,

I'm contunally amazed at how you manage to be so real. For me, the part of RFB4 that affected me the most was when you were talking directly to any of the Nickelodeon people who might be listening.

Wow.

Please keep doing what you're doing. You are very appreciated.

Loving the Podcast! Keep 'em coming...and Wil, you ARE important and you DO matter ;)

The best one yet! I'm so looking forward to episode 5 so I can be entertained some more ;)

The Happiest Days of Our Lives

  • These are the stories Wil loves to tell, because they are the closest to his heart: stories about being a huge geek, passing his geeky hobbies and values along to his own children, and vividly painting what it meant to grow up in the ’70s and come of age in the ’80s as part of the video game/D&D/BBS/Star Wars figures generation.

Buy Just A Geek: The Audiobook

  • "This journey is a fascinating read, made even more intimate and fulfilling by Wil's narrative. This is not just an audio book, it's a glimpse into the psyche of the man who considers himself . . . Just a Geek."
