West Coast - I'm on WPT tonight

Wil_wpti1_1 I just found out that I'm on the World Poker Tour on the Travel Channel tonight. It's the WPT Invitational from Commerce Casino, where I outlasted all the other celebrity players and finished 23rd to land $10,000 for City of Hope. I doubt I'll get much screen time, but my friend Burns! just called Anne to tell her that he saw me.

So . . . now you know! If anyone gets an mpeg or something, let me know and I'll link it up.

Update: WWdN:iX reader Andrew sent me the following captures:

XviD (9 MB)

mpeg2 (30MB)

It 's a great segment. I got a lot more camera time than I expected, and so did Darwin!  If anyone wants to seed .torrents, let me know and I'll update again. Thanks, Andrew!

Update: Brian, who provides .torrent seeds for all the podcasts, has worked his torrent-fu and produced a .torrent of the mpeg2 video file:

(Thanks, Brian!)

Cool. I hope they are repeating the same episode on the second show tonight.

/me shall wait for the torrents.
Silly lightening storms.
And funny, was playing Texas Hold Em on Y! tonight ;)

Hey, short segment, but nice. Yep, they announced you as last celeb standing!

Good on you, Wil.

I just saw you on the WPT episode, and it reminded me that I hadn't been to your blog in a while and decided to see what you were up to :)

Damnit you look so hot in that picture!!

Rowr!

What IS it with boys and poker?! Anyway, if you are the kind who likes to read up on strategy, the Dan Harrington books are the best. I'm not a great poker player, but I'm a great judge of quality writing. I gave a couple copies away and many people came back to tell me how much it improved their game.

Hiya Wil,

I'm looking forward to this one.

You can find the torrent here: www.thepokerbay.org

I can't wait to see it.

/wishes I had some poker sense

Uh...the quick time link only shows a big blue Q. Very pretty but not exactly what I was looking for.

Oh for the love of all things poker, I was looking at my channel guide last night and saw the WPT on Travel and almost watched it! Unfortunately almost only cuts it in horse shoes and handgrenades. Crap.

The clip is awesome though. Congratulations on the win for your charity and being the last celebrity standing :)

you look as though you can barely contain your excitement.

Saw you on the WPT last night, man! I think my exact words were along the lines of,

"Hey that's Wil! Rock on!"

(pause)

"I totally beat him heads up."

I missed the show last night, but I checked the WPT TV schedule (http://www.worldpokertour.com/calendar/) and it says the program will repeat this Saturday at 12:00 noon ET. Now if I can just remember how to set my VCR....

Now, what are your thoughts of them listing you as a multiclass Actor/Writer rather than Writer/Actor? Or something else altogether?

I can't get the mpeg file to play. It will load in Windows Media Player, but it only plays audio - no video. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm on the East Coast. The Travel Channel is playing something about a Japanese chef. But while surfing for the Travel Channel, I saw that AMC is playing "The Princess Bride." Sorry Wil, you just lost out to a Sicilian. Incontheivable!

Congrats Wil! I also like that they showed you as:

Wil Wheaton
Actor/Writer

I wont be home Saturday :( Maybe theyll rerun it again sometime. Looks liek you had fun :)

"Actor/Writer" was my second choice; "Actor/Poker Blogger" was vetoed by the otherwise very understanding Powers That Be WPT, on grounds that it might direct web traffic away from the corporate WPT site and to (gasp!) another poker site on the Internets. I tried explaining how "linked is the new isolated", but they weren't ready for Web 2.0 thinking. C'est la...

Glad you enjoyed the segment, Wil!

(This post is entirely my own view, and not that of WPT Enterprises, etc.)

Awesome Job for Last Celeb Standing ;)
WTG WIL!
10 grand for City of Hope is great!
I bet they are thrilled!
Keep up the good work!
Tell Jennifer Tilly I said hi! Lol. I adore her work!

Wow! You write, blog, act, AND play a mean game of poker? Anne is one lucky lady! (Dare I mention that you look totally hot, too? Don't want to get in trouble with the missus....)

Great job! And, a great charity. You are too cool for words.

I missed it, but a friend of mine saw it and mentioned it to me the day after it aired. I guess I should check here more often lol. But the mpg makes up for it all. :)
You do realize that it was all the monkey's doing that you won though right? hehe j/k

The Happiest Days of Our Lives

  • These are the stories Wil loves to tell, because they are the closest to his heart: stories about being a huge geek, passing his geeky hobbies and values along to his own children, and vividly painting what it meant to grow up in the ’70s and come of age in the ’80s as part of the video game/D&D/BBS/Star Wars figures generation.

Buy Just A Geek: The Audiobook

  • "This journey is a fascinating read, made even more intimate and fulfilling by Wil's narrative. This is not just an audio book, it's a glimpse into the psyche of the man who considers himself . . . Just a Geek."
