I just got an e-mail from the Rock-N-Roll Marathon. Check out these numbers:

The 2006 edition of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon brought over 22,000 registered participants to the starting line. Of this group over 4,000 participants ran for charity, raising $12.5 million (net) for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through Team In Training. This equates to an astounding $109.6 million (net) total over the past 9 years. Congrats TNT, and big thank you to all rock 'n' rollers who contributed to Make Cures Happen.
Remember when I wrote that anything you donated, even if it was just a couple of dollars, would pool together and add up to something significant? Well, there it is. We all helped do this together, and that rules.

I'm going to be very busy this summer with World Series of Poker stuff, but I'm already working out the logistics of doing another event in winter with Team in Training, either the Santa Barbara Half Marathon in November, or PF Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon in January.

its great how much money you guys were able to raise. i've got a friend doing team in training in the L.A. area. best of luck.

Isn't it great to be a part of something that can make such a difference in people's lives?

Also, I highly suggest you do the PF Chang's Marathon in Phoenix, that way you can come down to Tucson and do a reading from Just a Geek or Dancing Barefoot. You have a few demands in Tucson on Eventful (five times as many in Phoenix, sure, but forget Phoenix), come on down.

Wil,
This post gave me a jolt of excitement - I work for LLS and am in charge of marketing - that email is sent by my staff to all participants a day or so after the event... if you were at the pasta party - there were more than 6,000 people there, it was goosebump inducing!

"TNT"?

I guess they realized that their real initials (TIT) wouldn't go down very well with some people.

That's awesome how much you folks were able to raise!

I'm doing the Maine Half Marathon with Team in Training in memory of my uncle and grandfather.

Whoo-hoo!!! Now I don't feel so bad about my little contribution. Congrats to you, Anne, and all the others who got blisters and shin splints for this amazing cause :)

I work for the company that organizes both the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in San Diego, and P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon and 1/2 Marathon, so...I definitely vote you run AZ! :D

And maybe *this* time I can get our PR people to give you some love.

First of all I want to congratulate you on your half marathon! Way to go!

As a fellow runner, I wanted to make you aware of a kick-ass running podcast (runcast) called Phedippidations at www.steverunner.com. It's an outstanding podcast and each week touches on a new topic about running, it's well worth the download.

The Happiest Days of Our Lives

  • These are the stories Wil loves to tell, because they are the closest to his heart: stories about being a huge geek, passing his geeky hobbies and values along to his own children, and vividly painting what it meant to grow up in the ’70s and come of age in the ’80s as part of the video game/D&D/BBS/Star Wars figures generation.

Buy Just A Geek: The Audiobook

  • "This journey is a fascinating read, made even more intimate and fulfilling by Wil's narrative. This is not just an audio book, it's a glimpse into the psyche of the man who considers himself . . . Just a Geek."
