binary scarf, space invader socks

I don't know how to knit, but if I did, I would totally make this scarf and these socks.

Yep. Never underestimate the power of knitters, dude. :)

there are thousands of us out there...knitters are everywhere

I haven't done color knitting before, but I might have to try those socks - after I finish my current pair, which I started as a way to be productive while I'm waiting for stuff to load on my reeeaaally sllloooowww computer. (It's turned out to be a great way to keep from damaging pieces of hardware in frustration.)

Addendum: I just went back to the scarf page briefly, and saw an ad for a book called "Knitting with Balls: A Hands-On Guide to Knitting for the Modern Man." A comment next to it says "Charming - full of terrific manly patterns." (seriously - I am not making this up)

In case you are now inspired to learn to knit, here's the URL (of course I clicked on the ad):

Post a picture of the socks when you get 'em finished, OK? ;)

OK, here's one for you, Wil.

A recycled-gold wedding band with a binary message on it, and the company lets you apply a "voluntary carbon offset tax" to your order. Crunchy to the max! (and pretty too).

The funny thing about knitting is, it's basically binary as well. Knit is on and Purl is off. I think.

hmm I was carefully concealing those socks from my husband.. now you are in trouble!!! AHHH!
And.. well you just need to learn to knit.. great thing to do on a plane!

Awww...you done gone and did it now..you'll have socks and scarves for your whole family before long....Never let a knitter know you want something. It just gives us another reason to knit...

You see this tie?

The Happiest Days of Our Lives

  • These are the stories Wil loves to tell, because they are the closest to his heart: stories about being a huge geek, passing his geeky hobbies and values along to his own children, and vividly painting what it meant to grow up in the ’70s and come of age in the ’80s as part of the video game/D&D/BBS/Star Wars figures generation.

Buy Just A Geek: The Audiobook

  • "This journey is a fascinating read, made even more intimate and fulfilling by Wil's narrative. This is not just an audio book, it's a glimpse into the psyche of the man who considers himself . . . Just a Geek."
