sand-als

Sandals

I'm really happy with the composition of this shot, which was a happy accident.

I wear Birkenstocks.

It looks like someone walked that way before you.

Happy accidents=best photos

looks like summer

Nice shot Wil!

'member when we called them thongs...

Very cool - I like how although the sandals are black, there are still shadows contrasting further on them.

And another happy note - its 70F here in Manhappenin' Kansas right now... nice to know we've got similar weather for once!

Sorry to be off-topic (oh, here, "Nice pic!" :-)), Wil, but since CardSquad has closed, I don't know where else to ask. Have the Tuesday WWdN tournaments on Pokerstars stopped or been moved to a different time and place?

I've been busy with other things the past month, so haven't been playing. But I was planning on playing tonight, but can't find a listing for the tournament.

Put your sandals back on or the hot sand will have you Dancing Barefoot.

Somebody had to type this.

So it was one of my favorite words: serendipitous. It just rolls off the tongue so nicely, it's fun to say. The optimism it brings with it is nice, too.

Nice. I like the way the shadow in the sandals leads the eye through to the smoothed portion of the sand on a diagonal.

Here we are in Wisconsin, ecstatic that we can go outside without a coat - but still a long-sleeve shirt is a good idea - and you're taking pictures of your sandals in the sand.

*sigh*

((Nice new layout, btw!))

that's pretty convenient texture in the sand, makes a nice arc that rests the sandles at the 1/3 line near the apex. Especially since the line formed by the centre of the sandals is crossed by the line formed by the straps at the intersection of the thirds. The shadows also graduate leading away from the highest point of contrast. Yeah, that's a really solid composition.

I am such a photo nerd :P

That reminds me of a shot I did back in high school when I was learning B&W.

The cuffs of my jeans had filled with sand, and when I emptied them on the front mat it made an outline of my foot.

That is pretty nice pic, good balance. It reminds me of a picture I snapped in college. We were all sitting around in between developing film and pictures, (say what, whats that? The stuff before digicams everybody.) takes me back to dark room days, which were like visiting the red light district of photo development a few hours a week. Anyway, there was a single stool between all of us. It was like we had the same thought all at once. we all started putting our feet on the stool til' we made a pile it was like a cross between Twister and Jenga, as we all struggled to get just our foot gear in the pile. It was a fun moment amongst ghastly shrieks of pain and discomfort, all in the name of art. Made for a pretty good picture and I had a pair of Earth Shoes in that pic, that I was ever so fond of and have been unable to find since. I miss those shoes.

I love the picture. Accidental pictures are the best. And how lucky are you that you can wear sandals on the beach? It's getting warmer here (in the UK) but I'm still in jacket, trousers and trainers. I want to go to the beach now.

Wil,

Looks like you are having your normal fun. It has been warmer here but the forcast is bad for the weekend. By Sunday, I may think that the word warm starts with the letter b.

Ive had my chaco's out for a couple weeks. Itll only be a matter of time before the chaco/zorro tan makes an appearance.

I'm with joel... the photo nut in me immediatly drew imaginary 1/3 lines all over that photo... the center of the sandals runs right down the 1st 1/3 line, and is one of the reasons its so aesthetic looking. Accidentally perfect compositions are always great.

And in non-geek terms, I curse you and your sandal weather. Its JUST warm enough here in NY that wandering out in a sweater to get the paper at least won't lead to hypothermia ;o)

Nora, I didn't see the WWdN tourney last Thursday either. I suspect Wil's been too busy with other things to properly set it up? Sounds like he's been in writing-mode lately.

The Happiest Days of Our Lives

  • These are the stories Wil loves to tell, because they are the closest to his heart: stories about being a huge geek, passing his geeky hobbies and values along to his own children, and vividly painting what it meant to grow up in the ’70s and come of age in the ’80s as part of the video game/D&D/BBS/Star Wars figures generation.

Buy Just A Geek: The Audiobook

  • "This journey is a fascinating read, made even more intimate and fulfilling by Wil's narrative. This is not just an audio book, it's a glimpse into the psyche of the man who considers himself . . . Just a Geek."
