Man, watching the fevered reactions to the Virginia Tech shootings just reminds me anew of how ridiculous our political discourse has become in this country. It's a feeding frenzy of demagogues and frauds from all sides, rushing like ambulance chasing attorneys to find some way to blame the tragedy on whatever they already hated the day before the tragedy.I agree entirely. It hasn't felt right to me to not even acknowledge the tragedy at Virginia Tech, but I haven't until now because I haven't known what to say. With a child about to go to college, it's impacted me much more fully and emotionally than I think it would have ten years ago, and I hope that doesn't sound as callous as it does in my head.
There's certainly a time and a place to discuss the issues this tragedy brings out, but I really hope the cable news talking heads, pundits and politicians will just back off and argue amongst themselves for a little bit, and leave the families and survivors alone to grieve.
