awesome new geek gear is awesome (and expensive)

I think I've found just the thing to go with my 8-bit tie: Wiimote cufflinks!

I showed them to my friend who said: Oh man, that's so gre-- ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS?!

Well, yeah, there is that.

Well, guys and gals, in all fairness, being a jeweler here, the price is about what I would expect for customized pieces of art wear. Not saying that excuses the price tag completely, but they are casted from a wax mold, to which was laborious in effort, and sterling being higher in market value than ever, gives credence to the higher price tag. Having seen the work that goes into making something like this, at least from my modest studio, it *could* be asked for. For what I make, I ask for similar prices but at least I feel good about you get what you pay for, in my niche of the world.

As another jeweler, I have to echo camias designs. We do like to get paid for our work AND for our designs, after all.

*grin* They remind me of the T.A.R.D.I.S. cufflinks my brother in law got from his wife just before their wedding. I captured the best picture of him ever, on the dance floor throwin' the goat with the bright blue T.A.R.D.I.S. on his cuff.

I didn't mean to imply that these weren't worth their cost, and I'm all about artists getting paid for the work they do.

The thing is, at $150, they're squarely in the realm of Luxury Item Wil Really Can't Justify Right Now.

I'm not saying they're not worth it, though.

There's a two-fold problem with tie-pins

1 - they make you look like a schoolteacher or church minister.

2 - you have to wear a tie!

Came by here last night to alert everyone to a magazine bit about the project to make a LOLcats Bible (see "I Can Has Forgiveness? in The Wittenburg Door), but got totally distracted into ThinkGeek Land and am now trying to decide about the Ninja Alarm Clock that supposedly shakes the whole bed as well as blaring loudly. My husband votes "no," not because he thinks that's a bad idea but because he doesn't believe it really can accomplish what it says without being a much larger apparatus. Anyone here actually able to attest to it?
