wil's summer vacation

Indianheadtestpattern16x9

I am on vacation with my family, and I'm not especially motivated to do a whole lot of blogging.

Regular posts will resume in about a week.

Have a great vacation, Wil! And remember: To err is human, to ARR is pirate! :)

Have a good time!

Avast ye, have an ARRsome time - but don't forget to come back and shiver our timbers with your fine pirate booty...

Good for you and the family! We'll see you soon :)

Please to be doing the enjoying of your time.

;)

For a minute I thought you were going to say your vacation involved playing Fallout 2! I have that (almost) exact picture as an icon at a ton of places, like Plurk most recently. The only difference is it says PLEASE STAND BY across the center, with the gray background. It's used in Fallout 2 as one of the load screen pictures and I yanked it a few years ago and have been using it ever since.

Ok, enough rambling. Have an awesome vacation with your family!

Great "On Vacation" graphic!

Have fun, Wil!

Did anyone else have a Judge-Reinhold-in-FTARH flashback?

Hey, you shouldn't be expected to blog while you're on vacation. Enjoy your family and decompress!!

Have fun!

Oh good. I was just thinking, "somebody ought to check on Wil... he's been too quiet" like you're an elderly relative with painted shut windows or something.

Glad you're not breezeless. Or old.

Did anyone else misread ToddCommish's comment as "Judge-Reinhold-in-FART-flashback"?

Just me...fine...carry on.

Have a nice vacation Wil.

Have a great vacation!

Wait... a week?! But... but your wisdom... your insight... I'll go through withdrawals!!
I'm already feeling kinda shaky! Quick! Someone feel my forehead!!

Have a great time. Listen to some good music and take lots of pictures.

Er...I must admit that I totally geeked out about the 16x9 Indian-head test pattern on this post. That Wil would spend time constructing such a beast is beyond cool. I'm more of a Snell and Wilcox man myself, but the Indian Head has a certain extremely retro appeal, which fits with Wil's interest in short-wave and other stuff like that. And the juxtaposition with the modern TV aspect ratio...(right; back to the nerd cave).

A brief Google revealed that it probably wasn't composed by Wil...but Wil's use of it is still 97% awesomeness.

Have a good time playing Rock Band with the fam', Wil! We'll see you when you get back.

Here's wishing you warm sun, cool breezes and lots of fun with your family.

OK, hands up, everyone under the age of....let's call it 35...who knows what the image at the top of the entry is without looking it up on the 'Net? On and Rock the facial hair on vacation, Wil!

Have a great vacation!

Wowsers, I haven't seen that test pattern in years. Brough back dusty memories of Magnavox consoles and the dark days of only 5 viewing channels that all went off the air at midnight.

Hurrah for Wil, goody-goody for Anne, and let's hear it for Nolan and Ryan! Enjoy, and here's hoping you don't even SEE most of these posts for the next week. Bonus wish: May you return to discover your con visits are back on -- I can't go, but others will be well pleased.

I'm vaguely disappointed that your face wasn't photoshopped onto the head at the top, but not enough to send it back or anything.

Enjoy your vacation.

Cool old test pattern! Reminds me of the old days when all we had was a B&W TV and I'd get sent over to the neighbors to find out what colors things were in Star Trek. (The original series, of course!) Oops, gotta go, I hafta check the tubes in my TV. One has gone bad. Anybody know where I can find a tube tester?

Have a great vacation!

~Anybody know where I can find a tube tester?

Most 7-11 convenience stores used to have tube testers. I remember dad checking tubes from our console TV there several times in the 1970s.

Wil,

Enjoy your vacation and I hope you are not going through writer withdraw.

FG

Enjoy those summer days!

The Happiest Days of Our Lives

  • These are the stories Wil loves to tell, because they are the closest to his heart: stories about being a huge geek, passing his geeky hobbies and values along to his own children, and vividly painting what it meant to grow up in the ’70s and come of age in the ’80s as part of the video game/D&D/BBS/Star Wars figures generation.

Buy Just A Geek: The Audiobook

  • "This journey is a fascinating read, made even more intimate and fulfilling by Wil's narrative. This is not just an audio book, it's a glimpse into the psyche of the man who considers himself . . . Just a Geek."
