When I signed my post yesterday "Wil (and the vast majority of Americans)" I wasn't attempting to be pompous or presumptive, as some readers have inferred; rather, I was referring to overwhelming polling data which puts Bush's approval ratings in the low to mid 30s for all of 2006. In fact, he hasn't broken 51% since he was narrowly reelected in 2004, and since 2005, the numbers have stayed in the low 30s, never moving significantly outside the margin of error.
A few minutes at Google can track down all the polling data you'd ever want, but here's an interactive graph from CBS news that can give anyone who is interested an at-a-glance overview of what Americans have been saying for the entire Bush presidency.
The way I understand this data, no matter how you parse it, most Americans simply don't trust this man. We don't support his agenda, and we don't approve of the way he's run our country. I believe it's important to separate fact from opinion, but in this case, the facts seem to support the opinion I expressed.
