At 2pm, I looked at my Legion appointment sheet, to make sure we were only doing one episode today when we started at 3pm.
It said that we started at 2pm.
"Oh sweet Jesusmotherofshit!" I said, as I exploded into action, flew out of my house at warp 3, and safely drove at or beneath the speed limit, respecting all the laws which govern the operation of a motor vehicle on the interstate as well as surface streets.
I'm sure I was eleven shades of red when I walked into the recording booth, but they'd only done one bit of "opening walla,"¹ so I didn't miss anything important, or delay the day's work. Even though it was just a stupid mistake on my part (the appointment time was originally 3, but was changed and I somehow missed it until, well, 2pm today) I still felt irresponsible and unprofessional, which isn't exactly the best way to feel when I'm supposed to put my hands on my hips, puff out my chest, and let Cosmic Boy come to life.
Cosmic Boy had dialog at line 6 or 7, though, so I signed in, ran into the booth, and got set up next to Yuri and Heather as fast as I could. My first line took four or five takes before I shook off my very safe and law-abiding drive to the studio, and let Cosmic Boy take over.
Sadly, I can't say anything specific about the episode. Warner Brothers is incredibly serious about protecting the content of the shows, and I'd really like to keep working on them, so I'll just say, once again, that the level of talent, commitment, professionalism, and ultra-nerdy love for this show at all levels -- writers, producers, directors and actors -- is unlike anything I've ever experienced. [Actor's name redacted] just blew me away today.
Though I was a little rattled when I got there, I settled down fairly quickly, and it was just as fun to work on the show (and riff with the other Legionnaires) as it always is. When Yuri and I simultaneously quoted a moment from 2001, the whole room busted up, and Yuri said, "It's good to have you back, Wil."
It's just seven words, but from an actor who I like and respect very much, it really meant a lot to me. Even though I'm just a recurring character, I really do feel like I'm part of the Legion, both as a character and as an actor.
I missed my first episode, Chain of Command, when it was on this weekend, but according to The Legion Omnicom, there are, uh, various ways to see it online.
¹This is what we call it when there's a scene with a large crowd, and the audience can hear the crowd talking behind the main action. It's always really silly and fun to do it, because we all improvise things related to the action in the script, and inevitably someone ends with a line like " . . . walking around naked!" or " . . .and it turns out it was on my balls the whole time."
