At the end of the month (July 28 to be precise) there's a cool Stand By Me celebration happening up in Brownsville, Oregon. It's put on by the Alamo Drafthouse's Rolling Roadshow, and looks like it's going to be an incredibly good time. In addition to a screening of the movie, they're having a find the body scavenger hunt, setting up the main street in Brownsvilles to look like it did when we turned it into Castle Rock, and a pie eating contest, officially sanctioned by the I.F.O.C.E.
I was invited to come up and be part of it, but I'm going to be at Comic-Con with TokyoPop to promote my manga, (and possibly sign and sell copies of my new book, if the printer gets them back to me in time) so I can't be there, but if you're a fan of the movie, and within an hour or two's drive, I highly recommend it.
One of the organizers sent me a link this morning to pictures Andy Lindberg's brother took when we shot the barf-o-rama. Andy played Lardass, for those of you scoring at home. The photos won't mean as much to anyone reading this as they do to me (except maybe to my mom) but they capture, 1/30th of a second at a time, what it was like to work on Stand By Me that summer.
